Who Am I? | The Old Testament | #008

I reigned from India to Kush, a hundred and seventy provinces. On the third year of my reign, my throne was in the citadel of Shushan and I was holding a feast for all my official and servants. The power of Medes and Persia, the Nobles and Princes of the provinces were before me. I showed them the riches of my highly esteemed reign and the splendor of my excellent greatness for one hundred and eighty days. After one hundred and eighty days I made another feast to last seven days for all the people present in the citadel of Shushan. Great and small in the courtyard of my palace. At the same time I planned my feast, my wife also planned a separate feast for the women in my royal palace. At the end of my seven day feast my heart was glad with wine and I desired the presence of my wife to come before me wearing the royal crown because she was very pleasant to look upon. She refused! This made me very wroth and the rage burned within me! I consulted my wise men for advice. They suggested that a decree go forth that my wife Vashti shall come before me no more and that her royal position to be given to another. Later, after when my angered ceased, I remember my wife and what she had done and what I had done to her. I became lonely and my servants suggested that lovely young women be sought out for me and that whomever pleases me shall be Queen over my Kingdom instead of Vashti. And so, the search began.
